The Bayou Meto Water Management District held its Groundbreaking Ceremony for Pump Station #1 in Scott, Arkansas, later renamed "Marion Berry Pump Station".  Senator Mark Pryor and Congressman Marion Berry were among the congressional delegation present for the ceremony.  State Senator Bobby Glover and Senator Jean Edwards (ret.), were in attendance, as well as Walls McCrary, Lenville Evans, and Gene Higginbotham representing Congressman Mike Ross.

Construction of Marion Berry Pump Station is Complete

The construction of the Marion Berry Pump Station was started in November of 2010.  Now the pump station looks like the Corps of Engineers' artist's rendition. Construction was completed in July 2014.

With the construction of the Marion Berry Pump Station being complete, the Army Corps of Engineers turned the keys to the pump station over to the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission.  The keys will be turned over to the Bayou Meto Water Management District at a later date.

Guest speakers were Gary Canada, President of Bayou Meto Board of Directors; Senator Mark Pryor; Steve Gambrell, Executive Director of the Mississippi River Commission; COL Jeffery Anderson, Commander Memphis District US Army Corps of Engineers; Randy Young, Arkansas Natural Resources Commission Executive Director; Brigadier General Peter DeLuca, Commander Mississippi Valley Division US Army Corps of Engineers; and Gene Sullivan, Executive Director Bayou Meto Water Management District.   

Gene Sullivan presented a Chairman's Award to BG Peter DeLuca on behalf of the Bayou Meto Water Management District. BG DeLuca was presented the award in appreciation and recognition for raising the awareness of the critical need for groundwater conservation and for his support of the Bayou Meto Water Management Project.
